Nothing gets reported until it reconciles to the bank

A profit figure drawn from unreconciled books is a guess with a decimal point. We reconcile first, every month, and where the records cannot support the question you are asking we say so rather than producing a number anyway.

What we do

Bookkeeping that produces numbers you can rely on

Solace Ridge Co looks after the books for small businesses and nonprofits across the Kansas City metro. Every report we issue has been reconciled to the bank first, and we will tell you plainly when a question cannot be answered from the records you have.

Monthly Bookkeeping

Full-cycle bookkeeping with bank, card and loan reconciliation completed before any statement is issued, delivered on a fixed date each month rather than whenever it is finished.

Payroll Administration

Payroll processing, filings and year-end forms, run on schedule with the deposit liabilities reconciled rather than assumed correct.

Accounts Payable and Receivable

Bill entry, payment runs and collections support, with an aged report you can act on rather than a balance you cannot explain.

Nonprofit Bookkeeping

Fund and grant accounting for nonprofits, with restricted funds tracked properly so a board report shows what is genuinely available to spend.

Cleanup and Catch-Up

Bringing neglected books back to a reconciled state, with an honest estimate of the work involved and what can and cannot be recovered from the records that survive.

Reporting and Analysis

Management reports built on reconciled figures, including an explicit note where a question cannot be answered reliably from the data available.

Why we work this way

Most small business reports are produced before the books balance

A profit and loss statement appears at the start of the month. The bank has not been reconciled, several transactions are uncategorised, and two deposits are sitting in a suspense account. The report looks exactly like a correct one.

Owners make decisions on it. Hiring, pricing, distributions and borrowing, all based on a figure that will change materially once the reconciliation is done, if anybody does it.

The pressure runs toward speed. A bookkeeper asked for the numbers by the fifth produces numbers by the fifth, and reconciliation is the step that gets compressed because it is invisible in the output.

So we reconcile first and report second. If the reconciliation is not clean, you get a note explaining what is outstanding rather than a statement that implies a precision it does not have.

What people say

They told us our first quarter numbers could not be relied on until eleven months of uncategorised transactions were resolved. Our previous bookkeeper had been issuing reports the whole time.

Owner, contracting business

The board report now separates restricted funds properly. We had been telling our board we had money we were not allowed to spend.
